Ugíjar is situated approximately
500m above sea level in the region called the Alpujarra.
From Ugíjar it is possible to
explore the whole region, from the beaches of the
Costa Tropical to the highest peaks in the Iberian
peninsula (Mulhacén 3479m and Veleta 3394m).

| The closest
beaches to Ugíjar are around the
town of Adra. However going east from
Adra there are plenty of other beaches
around Aguadulce and Roquetas de Mar.
A little further east will bring you to
Cabo de Gata. Here you will find some
beautifully secluded beaches. |

| In the winter,
a one hour drive will bring you to Puerto
de la Ragua at 2000m from where it is
possible to go cross country skiing or
sledgeing or just enjoy the beautiful
countryside and a meal in the local restaurant.

| There are
many villages worth visiting that are
within driving distance of Ugíjar
including Válor, Cádiar,
Travélez (1476m) a great place
to visit to sample some of the best ‘jamón
serrano’ in Spain and Órgiva. |

| Around Ugíjar
there are a number of festivals that are
worth attending, including Ugíjar's
festival in October. |

| For people
who enjoy walking then this is the perfect
place. There are many routes including
the GR7 which is actually part of the
trans-european E4 route. You can access
this route by driving 10 minutes up to
the nearby village of Válor. |

| In Ugíjar
there is a market that takes place on
the 5th and the 20th of each month. This
usually brings people from many of the
surrounding villages into town and creates
a lively atmosphere. |
